Bullshit Media Event Might Cause Breakdown of German Power Grid

Bild von hadez

Symbolic actions can be harmful.
Take for instance the Licht aus! Fuer unser Klima (“Lights off! For our climate”) event about to happen Saturday 8th Dec 2007 from 8:00 PM to 8:05 PM.

What’s the deal?
Why exactly is it harmful?
Who would be stupid enough to…?
Why are people participating total morons?
How can you really make a difference?

Find out after the jump.

What’s the deal?

The readers digest version of this bullshit media stunt is this:
Everyone in Germany is supposed to switch off their lights at 8 PM local time for 5 minutes.
Why? “To save the climate”.

What a load of BULLSHIT!

Why exactly is it harmful?

Even experts warn of the possibility that this might kill Germany’s power grid.
The possibility is quite high, that if a lot of people power off all lights at the same time and back on 5 minutes later, pumped hydro storage wont be enough to satisfy the enormous spike, resulting in substations taking their last breath.

Who would be stupid enough to…?

Now, who would be stupid enough to initiate such a useless symbolic crap?
A bunch of mentals and morons?
BILD – the de-facto standard of as-bad-as-it-can-get yellow press in Germany
BUND – Germany’s society of tree-hugging hippies
WWF – The panda bear hugging counterparts
ProSieben – a privately owned German TV station
... AND Google.de – yes, you read right, GOOGLE :-/

Why are people participating total morons?

Think for a minute.
Let’s assume you’re one those who want to participate…
Why? – Because all these companies and the media say so? WTF?

This really shows how easily people can be influenced and driven into doing something totally stupid and useless, even possibly dangerous just because some (somewhat more or less credible) companies say so?

WHAT ARE YOU? SHEEPS?
WAKE UP DAMMIT!

Think for your selfs!
Stop following the herd!
Spend time with something way more important than lightbulbs!

How can you really make a difference?

Opponents of the event started a website (that looks quite similar but gets the right idea): Deutschland schaltet das Licht an – aber richtig! (“Germany turns on the light – but in the right way!”).
Here you can learn how to really save a lot of energy and become active without potentially disrupting the power grid.
