i, once again, managed to end up on the console.
no windows, no clicking, and i can’t get mplayer to work with my framebuffer console either.
the next time i’m about to just do that reboot before watching the movie...
someone PLEASE STOP ME!
well, one might think “what does a reboot have to do with ending up on the console”.
i’ve been told it’s something that happens frequently when switching gentoo’s profile from /2.4 to / (aka 2.6 mode), re-emerging kernel headers and re-compiling glibc.
at the same time i also upgraded from 2.6.7 to 2.6.12.
the latter kinda worked. but there’s one thing that didn’t work with either kernel version: xorg.
bad dog, no bisquit.
after trying to watch a video on the console (it worked once, back in my nvidia days) and failing to do so i can atleast listen to WoZ on jungletrain using mpg123.
and! i’ve got a graphical web-browser, links that is. it’s not perfect but it’s very close to perfect for a console application. kudos to the links developers for that one.
i hope that atleast kde will work after i’m finished compiling xorg. otherwise i’ll have to investet another day to compile all the kde stuff, yuck.
it tooke me like 3 hours to get back to x.
xorg re-compile and some config-foo did the job.
tho in the end i think config-foo alone would have done it, too.
anyways, there’s one nice feature i got and i don’t know where it came from: the display is totally crisp now, it never was that sharp.
