after my boss answered the “is it ok to work late one day and leave early another?” question with “definitely” i just had to leave at 1:30.
my coworkers were kinda surprised, but the only thing that’s important is: i’m gone!
even more important: the late evening schedule.
paradox was coming to san francisco to play at li po in chinatown. i just HAD to go there.
i had about two hours to waste so i just took a walk thru chinatown.

compared to the financial district this is a lot more exciting :D
when enicma arrived (accompanied by his girlfriend and her cousin) we went to some (probably indian) restaurant to have a drink and a little bit of food. the bastard of a waiter screwed us over. we’ve been arguing about just two of us wanting a little bit to eat for the whole time he was standing next to us, and yet we got served the plate for four people. which we only noticed when it got down to paying in the end. great.
the food was good tho.
but now for something completely different!
PARTY!
one word: awesome.
it started off with some very dark and abstract beats, not that good to dance to, but great stuff nevertheless. then the next DJ took over and he was dropping all kinds of classics which was even better.
when paradox started playing around midnight it was off the hook.
mixing his tunes with metalheadz and all the other good labels, going all over the history of dnb from hard amen rollers to choppy drumfunk you just couldn’t keep your feet on the ground.
in other news: i have to blame enicma for introducing me to a beer that tastes well. i guess that now i’m no longer the german who doesn’t like beer and hates soccer :(. i’ll just hate soccer some more to make up for the beer thingy :D
last but not least, enicma conned paradox into taking a picture together with us ;)

i’ve been slacking off a little over the last week.
you might have noticed that or will if you take a look at the date this party took place ;-)
i went to meet jon, mo, natalie and other friends of theirs for dinner in san francisco that day.
i took the BART to montgomery street station and walked up montgomery, as mo told me.
well, i got past a ton of navy people (it was fleet week at the time) and kind of missed a nice photo: a couple of navy guys in their sailor suits standing on the corner of montgomery and pacific right underneath the street sign. but maybe that’s just me thinking it would be nice, twisted minds ;)
mo told me to look out for the intersection with columbus, and so i did.
well, montgomery came to an end, and i was standing right at montgomery/green and there was no way to go any further.
so i called mo again and got told to go back on vallejo and look out for columbus ave.
what i wasn’t told was, that vallejo was blocked off at one point and i was on the wrong side.
so i took the only logical option and walked down the open end of vallejo ending up at the piers. duh.
finally, walking back on broadway i managed to take the right on columbus and meet the guys at columbus/grant
we had some awesome italian food at ideale before we went strolling back down the hill (yes, north beach is UP the frickin’ hill, i think i walked up and down like 3 times till i got to grant st) and around 10 or 10:30 we ended up somewhere between market and mission:
we went to still doin’ it at the anu bar in san francisco.
the bar is pretty small, yet fun.
i had a great time there, even tho it party stopped at 2am, which was kinda sad, really.
but rohan and martyn did a great job mixing everything from the all-time classics such as adam f – metropolis (you can listen to it on his website, if you want an idea), over to the newer, darker bassbin stuff, to some lovely old party rollers.
now the fun started.
remember, it was fleet week AND all the bars close at 2am.
now, as a minor detail, add a detour and crap on the bay bridge.
total chaos.
people driving on the wrong side of the road, cutting off other people, ignoring traffic lights.
nuf said, mo ended up driving down 101 to take the san mateo bridge.
so i ended up at home at around 4:30 or 5am.
what a day :D
you kind of know it’s going to be one of those days.
you’ll know the moment you’ll look at yourself in the shaving mirror, thinking that it would be ok not to shave, just today, because you’re feeling really lazy.
so, well, you don’t.
you decide to go with your green baggy pants, and a pullover.
you don’t look bad, but you look like,.. yes, like it’s one of those days.
and then, 30 minutes before you finish work you walk past the front desk and you end up having a converstation like this:
office manager: “hey, they are having a gig in san francisco tonight”
you: ‘yeah, i got the mail’
om: “you gonna go?”
you: ‘dunno, the place looks pretty high-end’
om: “yeah, i know, but i’m going there with my friends, wanna join us?”
you: “uhm, ok, why not!”
so, imagine the scene of a unshaved geek, wearing green baggy pants, and a pullover…
... walking into the lobby of the intercontinental mark hopkins, san francisco
going all the way up to the top floor and sitting down at the table with a cosmopolitan.
i’d say, if i have to be under-dressed, let’s atleast be under-dressed with style.
you think i’m kidding?
you bet i am…
...not.
