coming home after a long day at work the last thing you want to notice is
the smell of burned wood
and gasoline
and a column of smoke rising from behind the house
and a 6’+ fire
3’ away from the living room window
in sun-dried california.

my landlord calls it tree stump removal.
i call it insane.

but maybe that’s just the american way of handling things.
